FLASHING LIGHTS, CAMERAS, NO ACTION

SPEED cameras have been clocking 140 ambulances a month as theyattend emergencies.

Despite blue flashing lights being used, the 999 service receivesabout 35 prosecution notices every week from the police via the Avonand Somerset Safety Camera Partnership, which runs the cameras.

Although the fines have been waived once it is established thatthe ambulance was on emergency duty, staff at Avon Ambulance Servicehave been wading through mountains of paperwork, costing time andmoney, to prove each case.
